Frequently Asked Questions

Many of your questions will likely be answered below, however, for additional questions, call or use our contact form at the bottom of this page to contact us and we will help to answer any questions you may have.

When Is Darkhorse Lodge Open?

The Lodge is open May through October each year and retreats are offered once per month, on a Tuesday through Saturday basis.

What Do I Need to Bring For My Stay?

All you need to bring is your clothing for the 5 days you are here. We provide food, transportation to and from the marina, fishing licenses and gear, bed linens, towels, shower shoes and toiletries if you need any. We even have rain jackets and swim towels on the boats for those pop-up showers and the hot days where a dip is desirable to cool off.

How Can I Reserve A Room At The Lodge?
Visit the "APPLY" page to fill out the form. A copy of your valid service record or DD214 is required since the Lodge is a retreat for veterans. After uploading your image/documents and submitting the form, you will have access to the reservation page. Retreat reservations (Tuesday-Saturday) are provided on a monthly basis and must be made at least one week prior to your desired date. If you have any difficulty booking your stay, please don't hesitate to give us a call.

Why Do You Charge a $50 Deposit?

This charge was implemented due to too many no-shows during our first open season. Groceries are purchased according to the number of guests with reservations. If people don't show up, food gets wasted. The $50 deposit to book a room will be refunded upon arrival but forfeited if you choose not to show up.

Are There Activities Outside Of Fishing At The Lodge?

The Lodge provides transportation and access to the lake for fishing. Eventually, we hope to offer additional activities such as woodworking, and off-site range access. On-site, we offer axe-throwing, horseshoes, corn hole and a brand-new workout pavilion, complete with weights, benches, and Smith machine, speed and heavy bags, a cold plunge and sauna.

Can I Reserve A Cabin For A Group?

Please call or email us to assist with group scheduling. Our team can check availability and block off rooms as needed. Service documents and deposit for all group members may be submitted at that time by email or each member can complete the "APPLY" form separately.

Can My Spouse and/or Children Stay In My Room With Me?

At this time, each room can only be reserved for one veteran and the Lodge is adults only.

Can Non-Combat Veterans attend your retreats?

Most weeks throughout the year will be for combat veterans only. There will be several weeks where the Lodge will be open to service veterans as well and those weeks will be announced in advance.

Is The Lodge Pet Friendly?

No. We do, however permit medical service dogs with current vaccination status and valid service dog documentation. Emotional support animals are not allowed. We follow ADA service dog guidelines.

What Is Your Alcohol Policy?

Alcohol is discouraged on Darkhorse Lodge property and is forbidden altogether on our boats.

Is There Staff On-Site? What about counselors?

There is staff available 24/7.

We do not have counselors on-site but do have nearby resources available upon request.

What Is The Check-In and Check-Out Process?

Check-In is Tuesday after 3 pm, Check-Out is by 11 am on Saturday.

May I Bring My Gun?

For a variety of reasons, we do not allow weapons of any kind on Darkhorse Lodge property.

Do you have internet available?

Darkhorse Lodge is in a very rural area, and the buildings have metal siding and roofing. Indoor internet is not yet available and depending on your provider, you may not get signal even outdoors. We are working to get internet access for our guests but have not been able you as yet.

Can I Sponsor A Veteran Guest To Attend A Retreat? If So, What Is The Cost Per Guest?

Until we have been open a while, we won't have enough data to effectively calculate the cost per guest. As soon as we have the amount, we will be better able to answer that question. Until then, you are encouraged to donate any amount to put toward a veteran's stay.

How Can I Contribute To Darkhorse Lodge?

You will see several "DONATION BUTTONS" on our pages with several ways on how to donate! You can also visit our "GEAR" page to purchase merchandise - all proceeds benefit the Lodge. We thank you for your contribution!
